Hi, I’m Anushree 👋🏽 a PhD candidate and Marshall Scholar at the University of Cambridge and co-lead of Mapping AI. My research looks at the societal impacts of large-scale energy infrastructure, with a focus on the U.S. and South Asia. More broadly, I think about any major technological transition as a choice point that can enable building better infrastructure, institutions, and governance.
I’ve spent nearly six years working on climate risk and energy infrastructure—not necessarily because they pose existential risks, but because inaction, or poorly designed action, entrenches bad institutional design, increases conflict, and narrows human agency. I wrote about this theory of change, and how it shapes my thinking about the risks (and opportunities) enabled by powerful AI systems, in this post.
I recently co-founded Mapping AI, an open-source stakeholder mapping tool tracking 3,700+ people and orgs with the potential to shape the U.S. AI policy landscape. We crowdsource and verify data on dimensions like stakeholders’ AGI definitions and timelines, regulatory stances, threat models, and AI risk beliefs—which has led to some interesting initial insights about funding flows, crosspartisan beliefs, network connectivity, and more. We hosted a pre-launch MappingParty in SF, launched on X in May 2026 with millions of map views, and were featured on NPR Marketplace shortly after.
Before Cambridge, I was at MIT, where I studied urban planning and economics for my undergraduate and master’s degrees. One part of my master’s thesis used LLMs to analyze online media on every utility-scale wind and solar project in the United States. You can read about the lessons from validating the results of that project here. As part of my research, I’ve spent a lot of time in the field (both in rural California and Bangladesh), talking to communities about how they experience infrastructure on the ground. Across my work and personal life, I enjoy building systems to address pain points for the communities and teams I am part of. I have spent a lot of time thinking about effective operations, organizing, and fieldbuilding.
